Matthew 24

1Jesus left the temple and went on his way, when his disciples came to him to point out the temple buildings.

2But he answered them, "Don't you see all these things? Truly I tell you, no stone will remain here on another that will not be thrown down."

3While he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what sign will mark your coming and the end of the age?"

4And answering, Jesus said to them, "Watch that no one deceives you."

5For many will come in my name, saying, "I am the Christ," and will deceive many.

6You will hear about wars and reports of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for they must occur, but the end is not yet.

7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

8But all these are the beginning of labor pains.

9Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

10Then many will stumble, and will betray one another, and will hate one another.

11And many false prophets will arise and mislead many.

12And because lawlessness multiplies, the love of many will grow cold.

13But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

15When therefore you see the abomination of desolation spoken through Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place, let the one who reads understand.

16Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains.

17Let the one on the housetop not come down to carry away the things from his house.

18And let the one in the field not turn back to pick up his cloak.

19But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing in those days!

20But pray that your flight not occur in winter nor on the Sabbath.

21For then there will be great affliction such as has not happened from the world's beginning until now—no, nor ever shall.

22And if those days had not been cut short, all flesh would not have been saved, but for the sake of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.

23Then if anyone says to you, "Look, here is the Christ" or "There," do not believe.

24For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the chosen.

25See, I have foretold it to you.

26So if they tell you, “Look, he is in the wilderness,” do not go out; “Look, he is in the inner rooms,” do not believe.

27For as the lightning comes from the east and appears even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

28Wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

29But immediately after the distress of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.

31And he will send his angels with a great trumpet, and they will gather his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens to their farthest bounds.

32Now from the fig tree learn the parable: when its branch already becomes tender and the leaves put forth, you know that summer is near.

33So you too, when you see all these things, know that it is near, at the doors.

34Truly I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.

35Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

36But concerning that day and hour no one knows—not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, except the Father alone.

37For as in the days of Noah, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

38For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark.

39And they did not know until the flood came and carried everyone away; so also will be the coming of the Son of Man.

40Then two will be in the field: one taken and one left.

41Two women grinding at the mill—one will be taken, and one left.

42Keep watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord comes.

43But know this: if the master of the house had known at what watch the thief comes, he would have stayed watchful and not allowed his house to be broken through.

44Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man comes at an hour you do not expect.

45Who then is the faithful and wise servant whom his master appointed over his household to give them food at the proper time?

46Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.

47Truly I say to you that he will appoint him over all he has.

48But if that evil servant says in his heart, “My lord is delaying,”

49and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunkards.

50The lord of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know.

51and will cut him in two and set his portion with the hypocrites; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
