John 21

1After these things Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and he did so in this way.

2Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.

3Simon Peter said to them, "I'm going fishing." They said to him, "We're coming with you too." They went out and boarded the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

4But when morning had already broken, Jesus stood on the shore; however, the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

5Jesus therefore said to them, "Children, have you anything to eat?" They answered him, "No."

6He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find." So they cast it, and now they could no longer haul it in because of the multitude of fish.

7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girded his coat around himself—for he was naked—and threw himself into the sea.

8But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net with the fish—for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits off.

9When they stepped onto the land, they saw a charcoal fire lying there, fish laid on it, and bread.

10Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you just caught."

11Simon Peter therefore climbed up and dragged the net ashore, full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three; and though there were so many, the net was not torn.

12Jesus said to them, "Come have breakfast." None of the disciples dared question him, "Who are you?" knowing it was the Lord.

13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

14This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he had been raised from the dead.

15After they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

16He said to him again, the second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Shepherd my sheep."

17He said to him a third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" He replied, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."

18Truly, truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not want.

19He said this, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And having said this, he said to him, "Follow me."

20Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following—the one who had also leaned on his chest at supper and said, "Lord, who is the one betraying you?"

21So when Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, but what of this one?"

22Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You, follow me."

23So this report spread among the brothers that that disciple does not die. Jesus did not tell him, however, that he does not die, but, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?"

24This is the disciple who bears witness concerning these things and who wrote them, and we know that his testimony is true.

25There are also many other things that Jesus did, which if every one were written, I suppose even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
