Joshua 1

It happened after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh that Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

Moses my servant has died; now arise, cross this Jordan—you and all this people—to the land that I am giving them, to the sons of Israel.

I have given every place to you on which the sole of your foot will tread, as I spoke to Moses.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the great sea toward the sun's setting—that shall be your border.

No man will stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

Be strong and courageous, for you will put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their fathers I would give to them.

Only be strong and very courageous, keeping and doing according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded you, not turning from it to the right or to the left, so that you succeed wherever you go.

Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth, but meditate on it day and night so that you take care to do everything written in it, for then you will prosper your way, and then you will succeed.

Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous; do not dread or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua commanded the people's officers, saying,

Go through the camp and command the people, saying, "Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross this Jordan to enter and possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess."

Joshua said to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh,

Remember the word that Moses, Yahweh's servant, commanded you, saying, "Yahweh your God gives you rest and has given you this land."

Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock will remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but you will cross armed before your brothers, all you mighty warriors, and help them.

until Yahweh gives rest to your brothers as to you, and they also possess the land that Yahweh your God gives them; then you shall return to the land of your possession and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.

They answered Joshua, saying, "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go."

As we obeyed Moses in everything, so we will obey you; only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses.

Any man who rebels against your command and does not heed your words in all that you charge him with shall be put to death; only be strong and courageous.
