Joshua 21

1Then the heads of the Levite families approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of Israel's tribes.

2They spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for our livestock."

3The sons of Israel gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands from their inheritance, at Yahweh's command.

4The lot went to the families of the Kohathites. The sons of Aaron the priest from the Levites obtained thirteen cities by lot from the tribe of Judah, from the tribe of the Simeonites, and from the tribe of Benjamin.

5The rest of Kohath’s sons had ten cities by lot from the clans of Ephraim’s tribe, Dan’s tribe, and Manasseh’s half tribe.

6The sons of Gershon had thirteen cities by lot from the families of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from half the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

7The sons of Merari, clan by clan, had twelve cities from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun.

8The sons of Israel gave these cities with their pasturelands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh commanded through Moses.

9They gave from the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon these cities called by name.

10They were for the sons of Aaron from the families of the Kohathites, sons of Levi, because the first lot was theirs.

11They gave them Kiriath Arba, father of Anak—that is, Hebron—in the hill country of Judah, with its pasturelands surrounding it.

12They gave the city's fields and its villages to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

13To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron and its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Libnah and its pasturelands.

14Jattir with its pasturelands, Eshtemoa with its pasturelands.

15Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands

16Ain with its pasturelands, Juttah with its pasturelands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasturelands—nine cities from these two tribes.

17From the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands.

18Anathoth with its pasturelands, Almon with its pasturelands—four cities.

19All the cities of Aaron's sons, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasturelands.

20The families of Kohath's Levite sons, the remainder from Kohath's sons, had cities by lot from Ephraim's tribe.

21They gave them Shechem and its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, a city of refuge for the manslayer, and Gezer and its pasturelands.

22Kibzaim and its pasturelands, Beth Horon and its pasturelands; four cities.

23From the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh with its pasturelands, Gibbethon with its pasturelands.

24Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands; four cities.

25From the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasturelands and Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands; two cities.

26All ten cities with their suburbs for the families of the remaining sons of Kohath.

27To the sons of Gershon from the families of the Levites, from half the tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, a city of refuge for the manslayer, and Beeshterah with its pasturelands—two cities.

28From the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands.

29Jarmuth with its pasturelands, En-gannim with its pasturelands; four cities.

30From the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasturelands, Abdon with its pasturelands.

31Helkath and its pasturelands, Rehob and its pasturelands—four cities.

32From the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, a refuge city for the manslayer; Hammoth-Dor with its pasturelands; and Kartan with its pasturelands—three cities.

33All the cities given to the families of the Gershonites were thirteen cities with their pasturelands.

34To the families of Merari's sons, the remaining Levites, from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam with its pasturelands, Kartah with its pasturelands.

35Dimnah with its pasturelands, Nahalal with its pasturelands—four cities.

36From the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasturelands, Jahazah with its pasturelands.

37Kedemoth with its pasturelands, Mephaath with its pasturelands; four cities.

38From the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, the city of refuge for the slayer, and Mahanaim with its pasturelands.

39Heshbon and its suburbs, Jazer and its suburbs—four cities altogether.

40All the cities for Merari's sons by their families, the remaining from the Levites' families—their lot was twelve cities.

41All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities with their pasturelands.

42These cities were each with pasturelands around them, as were all these cities.

43Yahweh gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.

44Yahweh gave them rest on every side, as he had sworn to their fathers. No man among all their enemies stood before them; Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hands.

45Not a word failed from any good thing Yahweh spoke to the house of Israel; all came to pass.
