Joshua 11

1When Jabin, king of Hazor, heard, he sent to Jobab, king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph.

2and to the kings from the north in the mountains and the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowlands, and in the regions of Dor to the west.

3The Canaanite from the east and from the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and the Hivite beneath Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

4They went out, they and all their armies with them—numerous people like the sand on the shore of the sea in great multitude, and horses and chariots exceedingly many.

5All these kings assembled together, came, and camped together at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.

6Yahweh said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will deliver them all slain before Israel; hamstring their horses and burn their chariots in fire."

7Joshua and all the warriors with him came suddenly against them at the waters of Merom and fell upon them.

8Yahweh gave them into Israel's hand, and they struck them and pursued them to Great Sidon, to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh to the east; they struck them until none remained.

9Joshua dealt with them as Yahweh had directed him; he lamed their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

10Joshua returned then and captured Hazor and its king, striking him with the sword, for Hazor had formerly been the chief of all these kingdoms.

11They struck every person in it with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction; nothing that breathed remained, and he burned Hazor with fire.

12Joshua captured all the cities of those kings and all their kings, struck them with the sword's edge, and devoted them to destruction, as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded.

13Israel did not burn any of the cities standing on their mounds, except Hazor alone; Joshua burned it.

14The sons of Israel plundered all the spoil of these cities and the livestock for themselves, but they struck down every person with the sword's edge until they annihilated them, leaving nothing that breathed.

15Just as Yahweh commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did likewise; he turned aside from nothing of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.

16Joshua captured all this land, the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the Shephelah, the Arabah, Israel's hill country, and its Shephelah.

17From Mount Halak, rising toward Seir, to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon, he captured all their kings, struck them, and killed them.

18Joshua waged war against all those kings for many days.

19No city came to terms with the sons of Israel except the Hivites dwelling in Gibeon. They took everything in battle.

20Because their hearts were strengthened by Yahweh to engage Israel in battle, in order to devote them to destruction, so no mercy would be shown them, because the purpose was to annihilate them, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

21At that time Joshua came and cut off the Anakim from the hill country—from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab—and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities.

22No Anakim were left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did any remain.

23Joshua took the whole land, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses about everything; Joshua gave it to Israel as an inheritance according to their divisions by their tribes, and the land rested from war.
