1 Corinthians 10

1For I do not want you ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea.

2And all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

3And they all ate the same spiritual food.

4And all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

5But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6Now these things became examples for us, so that we would not desire evil things, as they also desired.

7Neither become idolaters, as some of them were; just as it is written, "The people sat to eat and drink, and arose to play."

8Nor should we commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.

9Nor let us test Christ, as some of them tested and were destroyed by the serpents.

10Nor grumble, as some of them grumbled and perished by the destroyer.

11Now these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

12So whoever thinks he stands should beware lest he fall.

13No temptation has seized you except a human one. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, but will with the temptation also provide a way out, so you can endure it.

14Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

15I speak as to wise people; you judge what I say.

16Isn't the cup of blessing that we bless a participation in Christ's blood? Isn't the bread that we break a participation in Christ's body?

17Because it is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

18Look at Israel in the flesh. Aren't those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar?

19What then am I affirming? That a sacrifice to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

20Rather, what they sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to become partners with demons.

21You cannot drink the Lord's cup and the cup of demons. You cannot share in the Lord's table and the table of demons.

22Or are we making the Lord jealous? Are we more powerful than he?

23Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up.

24Let no one seek his own advantage, but that of another.

25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, without asking questions, for the sake of conscience.

26For the earth and its fullness belong to the Lord.

27If any unbeliever invites you and you wish to go, eat whatever is set before you, questioning nothing because of conscience.

28But if anyone says to you, “This is sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it on account of the one who made it known and on account of conscience.

29I mean conscience—not your own, but the other’s. Why is my freedom judged by another conscience?

30If I partake by grace, why am I reviled for that for which I give thanks?

31Therefore, whether you eat or drink or do anything, do everything for God's glory.

32Be without offense to Jews and Greeks and the church of God.

33Just as I also please everyone in everything, not seeking my own advantage but that of the many, so that they may be saved.
