1 Corinthians 8

1Regarding things offered to idols, we know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge inflates, but love builds up.

2If anyone supposes he knows something, he does not yet know it as he ought to know.

3But if anyone loves God, that one is known by him.

4Now about food offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that no God exists but one.

5For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many gods and many lords—

6Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things come and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we exist.

7But knowledge is not in everyone; however, some, accustomed even now to the idol, eat it as sacrificed to idols, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

8But food does not recommend us to God; for neither, if we eat, are we better off, nor, if we do not eat, are we worse off.

9But watch that this freedom of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

10For if anyone sees you who have knowledge reclining in an idol's temple, won't his conscience, being weak, be built up to eat the things sacrificed to idols?

11For through your knowledge the weak brother perishes, the one for whom Christ died.

12So then, sinning against the brothers and striking their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

13Therefore, if food offends my brother, I will never eat meat, so that I do not offend my brother.
