1 Corinthians 11

1Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

2I commend you because you remember me in everything and hold the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

3But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, the man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of Christ.

4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.

5But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as if she had been shaved.

6For if a woman is not covered, let her be shorn as well. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.

7A man indeed ought not to cover his head, for he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man.

8For man is not out of woman, but woman out of man.

9For man was not created for the woman, but woman for the man.

10For this reason the woman ought to have authority on her head because of the angels.

11Nevertheless, neither is the woman apart from the man, nor the man apart from the woman, in the Lord.

12For as the woman is from the man, so also the man is through the woman; but all things are from God.

13Judge for yourselves: is it fitting for a woman to pray to God uncovered?

14Doesn't nature itself teach you that if a man indeed wears long hair, it is a dishonor to him?

15But if a woman has long hair, it is her glory, because her hair has been given her as a covering.

16But if anyone seems contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

17But in commanding you this, I do not commend you, because you assemble not for the better but for the worse.

18For first of all, when you assemble in church, I hear divisions exist among you, and I believe part of it.

19For there must also be factions among you, so that those approved may also become evident among you.

20Therefore, when you come together in one place, you are not eating the Lord's supper.

21For when eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of time, while one is hungry and another is drunk.

22For don't you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise God's church and shame those who do not have? What am I to say to you? Am I to praise you? In this I do not praise you.

23For I received from the Lord what I also handed over to you: the Lord Jesus took bread on the night he was handed over.

24And after giving thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body for you; do this in remembrance of me."

25Likewise he also took the cup after dining, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink, for my remembrance."

26For whenever you eat this bread and drink the cup, you declare the Lord's death until he comes.

27So whoever eats the bread or drinks the Lord's cup unworthily will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

28But let a person examine himself, and thus eat from the bread and drink from the cup.

29For whoever eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

30For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a good number sleep.

31For if we were discerning ourselves, we would not be judged.

32But when judged by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we might not be condemned with the world.

33So, my brothers, when you assemble to eat, wait for one another.

34If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you do not assemble for judgment. The rest I will direct whenever I come.
