Hebrews 5

1For every high priest, selected from among men, is appointed on behalf of men in matters concerning God, so that he might offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

2He can have compassion on the ignorant and those who go astray, because he himself is also beset with weakness.

3Because of this he must offer for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.

4And no one takes this honor for himself, but the one called by God, just as Aaron also was.

5So also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but he who said to him, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you."

6As he also says elsewhere, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

7Who, in the days of his flesh, presented prayers and supplications with a loud, powerful cry and tears to the one able to save him from death, and was heard because of his reverence.

8Although he was a son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.

9And having been perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

10called by God high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

11About him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing.

12For you ought to be teachers by now, but you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the first principles in God's oracles, and you have become those needing milk, not solid food.

13For everyone who partakes of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

14But solid food is for the mature, who through practice have their senses trained to discern both good and evil.
