Hebrews 10

1For the law has a shadow of the good things to come, not the image itself of those things, and with the same sacrifices they offer year by year continually, it can never perfect those who draw near.

2For otherwise they would not have ceased being offered, because the worshipers, once purified, would no longer have any conscience of sins.

3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance of sins every year.

4For the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins.

5Therefore when he enters the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but you prepared a body for me."

6Burnt offerings and sin offerings did not please you.

7Then I said, "See, I have come—in the heading of the scroll it stands written concerning me—to do your will, O God."

8Earlier saying that sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and those for sin—which are offered according to the law—you did not desire, nor take pleasure in.

9Then he has declared, "See, I have come to perform your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second.

10By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of Jesus Christ's body once for all.

11And every priest indeed stands daily, serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

12But he, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.

13henceforth waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.

14For by one offering he has forever perfected those who are being sanctified.

15The Holy Spirit also bears witness to us, for after saying,

16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will give my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds.

17And their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more.

18Now where there is forgiveness for these, no longer is there an offering for sin.

19Therefore, brothers, we have confidence to enter the holy places through the blood of Jesus.

20which he dedicated for us—a new and living way through the veil, that is, his flesh

21and a great priest over God's house,

22Let us draw near with a true heart in the full certainty of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

23Let us hold firm to the hope we profess, unswervingly, for he who promised is faithful.

24And let us consider one another to stir up love and good works.

25Do not forsake your gathering together, as some are accustomed to do, but encourage one another all the more as you see the day approaching.

26For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins remains any longer.

27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery zeal about to devour the adversaries.

28Anyone who sets aside the law of Moses dies without pity on the basis of two or three witnesses.

29How much worse punishment do you suppose will he deserve who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, deemed the blood of the covenant—by which he was sanctified—profane, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

30For we know the one who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people."

31It is terrible to fall into the hands of the living God.

32But remember the earlier days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings.

33Partly you were made a spectacle by both reproaches and afflictions; partly you became partners with those so treated.

34For you sympathized with the prisoners and accepted with joy the plundering of your possessions, knowing you have for yourselves a better and enduring possession.

35Therefore do not cast away your boldness, which has great recompense.

36For you need endurance so that, having done God's will, you receive the promise.

37For in a very little while, the one who comes will come, and will not delay.

38But my righteous one will live by faith; if he draws back, my soul takes no pleasure in him.

39But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preservation of the soul.
