Acts 2

1And when the day of Pentecost was being fulfilled, they were all together in the same place.

2And suddenly a sound came from heaven like a violent wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

3And divided tongues like fire appeared to them, and one sat upon each of them.

4And all were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.

6Now when this sound arose, the multitude assembled and was confused, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.

7They were astonished and marveling, saying, "See, aren't all these who speak Galileans?"

8And how do we each hear in our own language, the one we were born into?

9Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and the inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya around Cyrene, and the visiting Romans.

11both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our languages the great deeds of God.

12All were astounded and bewildered, one saying to another, "What is this supposed to be?"

13But others mocked, saying, "They are full of new wine."

14But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and spoke out to them: "Jewish men and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words."

15For these are not drunk, as you suppose, because it is the third hour of the day.

16But this is what has been said through the prophet Joel.

17And it will be in the last days, says God, I will pour out from my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

18Even on my servants and handmaidens in those days I will pour out from my Spirit, and they will prophesy.

19And I will bring forth wonders in the heavens above, and signs upon the earth below; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.

20The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the Lord's great and glorious day comes.

21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

22Fellow Israelites, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man God attested to you by powerful works and wonders and signs which he did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know.

23Him, delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hand of lawless men.

24Whom God raised, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

25For David says of him, I foresaw the Lord always before me, because he is at my right hand, so that I might not be shaken.

26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue exulted; moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.

27Because you will not forsake my soul in Hades, nor will you allow your Holy One to see corruption.

28You revealed to me the paths of life; you will fill me with gladness in your presence.

29Men, brothers, I may speak boldly to you about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us to this day.

30Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath that one from the fruit of his loins would sit on his throne,

31Having foreseen, he spoke about the resurrection of Christ, that neither was he abandoned in Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

32God raised this Jesus, of whom we all are witnesses.

33Therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this, which you see and hear.

34For David did not go up into the heavens, but he himself says, "The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand.'"

35until I set your enemies as a footstool for your feet.

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37When they heard, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men, brothers, what shall we do?"

38Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

39For the promise is to you and your children, and to all who are far away, whomever the Lord our God calls.

40He bore witness with many other words and urged them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"

41So those who accepted his word were baptized, and that day about three thousand souls were added.

42They devoted themselves steadfastly to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.

43Fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs took place through the apostles.

44All the believers were together and held everything in common.

45And they were selling their possessions and goods, and dividing them among all as anyone had need.

46Day by day, devoting themselves with one accord in the temple and breaking bread house to house, they shared food with gladness and sincerity of heart.

47They were praising God and enjoying favor with all the people, while the Lord kept adding to their company day by day those being saved.
