What does the Bible say about baptism?
Baptism in the New Testament is commanded, communal, and bound to Jesus. Disciples are made and baptized in the Triune name. Believers go down into water; households are baptized; people are buried with Christ and raised to walk in newness of life. Churches differ on who is baptized and how much water the burial imagery requires. This page will not call a historic tradition unfaithful, and it will not help you baptize yourself. Baptism happens in the church.

Paul can speak of being buried and raised with Christ, of putting on Christ, of one Spirit baptizing us into one body. Those texts are why baptism is not a private lifestyle accessory.
