Acts 14

1It happened in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews and spoke so that a great multitude both of Jews and Greeks believed.

2But the Jews who disobeyed stirred up and embittered the hearts of the Gentiles against the brothers.

3So they spent quite some time there, speaking boldly in the Lord who testified to the word of his grace by granting signs and wonders to be worked through their hands.

4But the multitude of the city was divided, and some indeed were with the Jews, while others were with the apostles.

5But when an assault arose from both the Gentiles and the Jews with their rulers to abuse and stone them,

6They realized it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and the surrounding region.

7And there they were preaching the good news.

8And in Lystra a certain man was sitting, powerless in his feet, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.

9He listened to Paul speaking, who gazed intently at him and saw that he had faith to be healed.

10He called out loudly, "Stand upright on your feet!" And he sprang up and walked.

11When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in Lycaonian, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men."

12They called Barnabas Jupiter and Paul Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.

13And the priest of Jupiter that was before the city brought bulls and garlands to the gates with the crowds and wished to sacrifice.

14But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard, they tore their garments and leaped into the crowd, shouting.

15And saying, Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men subject to the same passions as you, proclaiming to you to turn from these vain things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea, and everything in them.

16who in past generations let all nations walk in their own ways.

17Although he did not leave himself without witness by doing good, giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

18Even saying these things, they barely restrained the crowds from sacrificing to them.

19But Jews from Antioch and Iconium came, and after persuading the crowds and stoning Paul, dragged him out of the city, supposing him dead.

20But when the disciples stood around him, he rose up and entered the city; the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe.

21After proclaiming the good news in that city and making many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch.

22strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging them to persevere in the faith—that we must enter God's kingdom through many trials.

23After appointing elders for them in every church and praying with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

24And passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25And having spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

26From there they sailed to Antioch, from which they had been entrusted to God's grace for the work they accomplished.

27When they arrived and assembled the church, they reported everything God had done with them and how he had opened to the nations a door of faith.

28And they spent no little time with the disciples.
