2 Chronicles 31

1When they finished all this, every Israelite present went out to Judah's cities, shattered the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, demolished the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim and Manasseh too, until they destroyed them completely. Then every Israelite returned to his property, to his town.

2Hezekiah established the divisions of the priests and the Levites upon their divisions, every man according to his service—for priests and Levites—for burnt offerings and peace offerings, to serve, give thanks, and praise in the gates of the camps of Yahweh.

3The king's portion from his possessions was for the burnt offerings, for morning and evening burnt offerings, and burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, new moons, and appointed feasts, as written in the law of Yahweh.

4He commanded the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, so that they might be strong in the law of Yahweh.

5As soon as the command spread abroad, the sons of Israel brought abundantly the firstfruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey, and all the produce of the field, and they brought the tithe of everything in abundance.

6Children of Israel and Judah living in Judah's cities also brought the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things—the consecrated ones—to Yahweh their God, and piled them in heaps upon heaps.

7In the third month they began establishing the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month.

8Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, and blessed Yahweh and his people Israel.

9Hezekiah inquired of the priests and the Levites about the heaps.

10Azariah the chief priest, head of Zadok's house, answered him: "Since offerings began arriving at Yahweh's house, we have eaten our fill and have plenty left over, for Yahweh has blessed his people—and the surplus is this vast abundance."

11Hezekiah commanded the preparation of chambers in the house of Yahweh, and they prepared them.

12They brought the contributions, the tithes, and the dedicated things faithfully, with Conaniah the Levite as chief over them and Shimei his brother as second.

13Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under Conaniah and Shimei his brother, appointed by Hezekiah the king and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

14Kore son of Imnah the Levite, gatekeeper on the east, supervised the voluntary gifts to God to apportion the contributions for Yahweh and the most sacred things.

15Under his hand were Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah in the cities of the priests, faithfully giving to their brothers according to their divisions, both the great and the small.

16Besides males reckoned by genealogy from three years old and upward, everyone entering the house of Yahweh, for the matter of the day in its day, for their service in their charges according to their divisions.

17and the priests enrolled by genealogy according to their fathers' houses, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their duties by their divisions;

18And for the genealogical enrollment of all their young children, wives, sons, and daughters throughout the entire congregation, because in their faithfulness they consecrated themselves in holiness.

19For the sons of Aaron, the priests in the outlying fields of their cities—in every town, men designated by name to deliver portions to all males among the priests, and to all reckoned by genealogy among the Levites.

20Hezekiah did so throughout all Judah and did what was good, right, and faithful before Yahweh his God.

21In every deed that he began in the service of God's house, in the law and the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart and prospered.
