1 Timothy 6

1All who are slaves under a yoke must regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching are not blasphemed.

2And those who have believing masters must not despise them, because they are brothers; rather, they must serve them even more, because they are faithful and beloved, sharing in the benefit. Teach and exhort these things.

3If anyone teaches other doctrine and refuses to follow sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the teaching according to godliness,

4He is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with controversies and quarrels over words, from which arise envy, strife, slanders, and evil suspicions.

5Wranglings of people whose minds have been corrupted and who have been defrauded of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness.

6But godliness together with contentment is great gain.

7For we brought nothing into the world, nor are we able to take anything out.

8But having food and clothing, we will be content with these.

9But those wanting to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, as well as many foolish and harmful desires that drown people in ruin and destruction.

10For the love of money is a root of all evils, which some by coveting have strayed from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11But you, O man of God, flee these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.

12Strive in the noble contest of faith and take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and confessed the noble confession before many witnesses.

13I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate bore the good confession.

14that you keep the commandment unblemished and above reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15which the blessed and only Sovereign will reveal in its proper times, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

16who alone possesses immortality, living in unapproachable light; no human has seen him, nor can any—to him honor and eternal might. Amen.

17Charge those rich in this present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God who provides us all things richly for enjoyment.

18to do good, to abound in good deeds, to be generous and willing to share.

19Treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may take hold of true life.

20O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, turning aside from profane and vain talk and the contradictions of knowledge falsely named.

21That some who claim it have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.
