Zechariah 12

1An oracle, the word of Yahweh concerning Israel: Yahweh declares, who stretches out the heavens, founds the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.

2Behold, I am making Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples, and it will also be upon Judah in the siege against Jerusalem.

3And it will be in that day that I will set Jerusalem as a burdensome stone for all peoples; all who burden it will be cut in pieces, and all nations of the earth will gather against it.

4On that day, declares Yahweh, I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with frenzy; I will turn my eyes to the house of Judah, and strike every horse of the nations blind.

5The captains of Judah will say in their hearts, "The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in Yahweh of hosts their God."

6In that day I will make Judah's captains like a firepot amid the wood and like a fiery brand amid sheaves; they will consume all the peoples around, to the right and to the left, and Jerusalem will dwell again in her place, in Jerusalem.

7Yahweh will save Judah's tents first, so that the glory of David's house and the glory of Jerusalem's dwellers do not boast over Judah.

8In that day Yahweh will defend on behalf of those dwelling in Jerusalem, and the weak one among them that day will be like David, while the house of David will be like God, like the angel of Yahweh before them.

9It will be in that day that I seek to destroy all the nations coming against Jerusalem.

10I will pour out on David's house and on those dwelling in Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplications, and they will look to me whom they have pierced; they will mourn for him as for an only son, and grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn.

11On that day mourning in Jerusalem will magnify, like the mourning at Hadad-rimmon in the valley of Megiddo.

12The land will mourn, every family alone; the family of the house of David alone, and their wives alone; the family of the house of Nathan alone, and their wives alone.

13the family of the house of Levi by themselves, and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by themselves, and their wives by themselves.

14All the families that remain, family by family apart, and their wives apart.
