Ephesians 4

1Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthily of the calling to which you were called.

2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.

3Make every effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4One body and one Spirit—just as you also were called in one hope of your calling.

5One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

6One God and Father of all, the one over all and through all and in all.

7But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.

8Therefore he says: "When he ascended to the heights, he led captivity captive and gave gifts to people."

9Now, what does "he ascended" mean if not that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?

10The one who descended is himself also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.

11And he himself gave some apostles, others prophets, others evangelists, others shepherds and teachers.

12for equipping the saints for the work of service, for building up the body of Christ

13until we all attain the unity of faith and knowledge of God's Son, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of Christ's fullness.

14so that we are no longer children, tossed by waves and borne in every direction by every wind of teaching, through the trickery of men, through craftiness, aimed at the schemes of deceit.

15But speaking truth in love, let us grow up in every way into him who is the head, Christ.

16From whom the whole body, fitted together and united through every joint's supply, according to the working in the measure of each one part, makes the increase of the body to build up itself in love.

17This, then, I say and testify in the Lord: no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind.

18Having their understanding darkened, being estranged from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts.

19who, having become insensitive, gave themselves up to debauchery to practice every kind of impurity with greed.

20But you did not learn Christ that way.

21since you heard him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus.

22that you lay aside, according to your former way of life, the old man that is being corrupted according to the lusts of deceit.

23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

24and clothe yourselves with the new man created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth.

25Therefore, having put off falsehood, each of you speak truth with his neighbor, because we are members one of another.

26Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath.

27Neither give the devil a foothold.

28Let the one who steals steal no longer, but rather let him toil, working with his own hands to do good, so he has something to share with the one in need.

29Do not let any unwholesome word come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up as needed, so that it brings grace to those who hear.

30And do not grieve God's Holy Spirit, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and reviling be taken away from you, with all malice.

32Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
