Jeremiah 33

1The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard, saying,

2Thus says Yahweh who does it, Yahweh who forms it to establish it; Yahweh is his name.

3Call to me, and I will answer you and show you great and hidden things you do not know.

4For thus says Yahweh, God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that are broken down against the siege ramps and the sword.

5Those coming to fight the Chaldeans and fill them with corpses of men whom I struck in my anger and fury, and for all whose evil I hid my face from this city.

6Behold, I will bring it health and healing, and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth.

7I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as at the first.

8I will cleanse them from all their iniquity in which they have sinned against me, and I will pardon all their iniquities in which they have sinned against me and rebelled against me.

9It will be to me a name of joy, praise, and glory among all the nations of the earth that hear all the good I do for them and fear and tremble at all the good and all the peace I do for it.

10Thus says Yahweh: Again there will be heard in this place, which you say is waste—without man and without beast—in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that lie desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast.

11the sound of joy and gladness, the sound of bridegroom and bride, the sound of those declaring, “Praise Yahweh of hosts, for Yahweh is good, for his faithful love endures forever”—those bringing thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh; for I will restore the fortunes of the land as at the beginning, says Yahweh.

12Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Once more there will be in this desolate place—empty of man and beast—and in all its cities a fold for shepherds bedding their flocks.

13In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowlands, in the cities of the south, in the land of Benjamin, around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says Yahweh.

14Look, days are coming, declares Yahweh, when I will fulfill the good word that I spoke concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

15In those days and at that time, I will raise up for David a righteous branch, and he will uphold justice and righteousness in the land.

16In those days Judah will be delivered, and Jerusalem will dwell securely; and this is the name by which she will be called: Yahweh Our Righteousness.

17For thus says Yahweh: A man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel will never be cut off from David.

18Nor will a man among the priests, the Levites, ever be cut off from before me to offer up burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices every day.

19The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying,

20Thus says Yahweh: If you break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so that there is no day and night in their season.

21then my covenant with my servant David may also be broken, so he has no son reigning on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

22As the host of heaven cannot be numbered nor the sand of the sea measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who serve me.

23The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying,

24Haven't you noticed what this people are saying: "Yahweh has cast away the two families he chose, and they despise my people so as no longer to be a nation before them"?

25Thus says Yahweh: If my covenant of day and night does not endure, if I have not established the decrees of heaven and earth,

26Then I too will reject the offspring of Jacob and my servant David, refusing to select rulers from his offspring to govern the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for I will restore their captivity and have mercy on them.
