Jeremiah 47

1The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh struck Gaza.

2This is what Yahweh says: See, waters rise from the north and become an overflowing torrent that floods the land and everything in it, the city and those dwelling in it; humankind cries out, and every inhabitant of the land howls.

3From the sound of the stamping of his mighty steeds' hooves, from the commotion of his chariots, from the tumult of his wheels, fathers do not turn to their sons for slackness of hands.

4Because of the day coming to destroy all the Philistines, to sever from Tyre and Sidon every remaining helper—for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines, the remnant from Caphtor's island.

5Baldness has come to Gaza; Ashkelon lies silenced with the remnant of their valley—how long will you gash yourself?

6Ah, sword of Yahweh, how long before you quiet? Gather yourself into your scabbard; rest and be silent.

7How can you be quiet, since Yahweh has commanded it against Ashkelon and against the seashore? There he has appointed it.
