Amos 9

1I saw the Lord standing over the altar, and he said, "Strike the capitals so the thresholds quake, and shatter them all on the head; I will kill their last with the sword—no runner among them will flee away, nor will any fugitive escape."

2Though they dig into Sheol, from there my hand will seize them; and though they ascend to heaven, from there I will bring them down.

3Though they hide atop Carmel, from there I will search and take them; though they conceal themselves from my sight on the sea floor, from there I will command the serpent, and it will bite them.

4Though they go into captivity before their enemies, from there I will command the sword, and it will kill them; I will set my eyes upon them for calamity, and not for good.

5The Lord Yahweh of hosts touches the earth, and it melts; all who live in it mourn, and it rises completely like the Nile and sinks again, like the Nile of Egypt.

6He builds his upper chambers in the heavens and establishes his vault upon the earth; he summons the waters of the sea and pours them out over the earth's surface—Yahweh is his name.

7Are you not like children of Cushites to me, you children of Israel? declares Yahweh. Have I not brought Israel up from the land of Egypt, and Philistines from Caphtor, and Aram from Kir?

8Behold, the eyes of the Lord Yahweh are on the sinning kingdom, and I will destroy it from the earth's surface; only I will not completely destroy the house of Jacob, declares Yahweh.

9For behold, I will command the sifting of the house of Israel among all the nations, as one sifts in a sieve, yet not a kernel will fall to the earth.

10All sinners of my people will die by the sword, those who say, "Calamity will not overtake us or confront us."

11In that day I will raise up David's fallen tent, repair its breaches and its ruins, raise them up, and build it as in ancient days.

12so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name, declares Yahweh who does this.

13Behold, days are coming, says Yahweh, when the plowman will catch up to the reaper, and the treader of grapes to the sower of seed; the mountains will drip new wine, and all the hills will flow.

14I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they will build the desolate cities and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and drink their wine, make gardens and eat their fruit.

15I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be uprooted from the land I have given them, says Yahweh your God.
