Amos 4

1Hear this word, you cows of Bashan on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their husbands, "Bring, and let us drink."

2Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness that, behold, days are coming upon you when he will carry you off with hooks, and the last of you with fishhooks.

3You will go out through the breaches, each one straight ahead of her, and you will hurl yourselves into Harmon, says Yahweh.

4Come to Bethel and rebel; multiply rebellion at Gilgal; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days.

5Burn a thank offering with leaven, and proclaim freewill offerings—make them known! For this is what you love, sons of Israel, declares the Lord Yahweh.

6I also have given you clean teeth in all your cities and a shortage of bread in all your places, yet you have not returned to me, says Yahweh.

7I also withheld rain from you when there were still three months until harvest, and I sent rain on one city but not on another; one field was rained on, while the field that received none withered.

8Two or three cities wandered to one city to drink water, but they were not filled; yet you have not returned to me, says Yahweh.

9I have struck you with blight and mildew when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees abounded; the locust devoured them, yet you have not returned to me, says Yahweh.

10I sent pestilence upon you like Egypt's, struck down your young men with the sword and carried off your horses, bringing your camps' stench into your nostrils, yet you did not return to me, says Yahweh.

11I overturned some among you, like God’s overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a brand snatched from the fire, yet you did not return to me, says Yahweh.

12Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel: since I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.

13For behold, he who fashions the mountains and creates the wind, declares to man what his thought is, makes dawn into darkness, treads upon the high places of the earth: Yahweh, God of Hosts, is his name.
