Lumin Translation
Amos 6
Woe to those at ease in Zion and secure on the mountain of Samaria, the renowned chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel comes.
Go across to Calneh and see; from there go to great Hamath, then down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Or is their border greater than your border?
You who drive away the day of disaster and bring near the seat of violence.
those who lie on ivory beds and sprawl across their couches, eating lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall.
who chant to the sound of the harp like David, who devise musical instruments for themselves,
who drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with choicest oils, yet feel no grief over Joseph's ruin.
Therefore they will now go into exile at the head of the exiles, and the revelry of the loungers will end.
The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his soul, declares Yahweh God of Hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his palaces, and I will deliver the city with all its fullness.
It will be that if ten men are left in one house, they will die.
His uncle and the one burning him will carry him out to retrieve the bones from the house, and will say to the one in the back of the house, "Anyone still with you?" He will say, "None." Then he will say, "Silence! For we must not mention Yahweh's name."
For see, Yahweh commands, and he will strike the great house into pieces and the little house into cracks.
Do horses run on the rock? Does one plow with oxen? For you have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood.
You who rejoice over a thing of nothing, who say, "Haven't we taken horns for ourselves in our strength?"
Look, I will raise up a nation against you, house of Israel, says Yahweh, God of hosts, and they will oppress you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.
