Amos 2

1Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, because he burned the bones of Edom's king to lime.

2I will send fire on Moab, and it will consume the palaces of Kerioth; Moab will die amid tumult, shouting, and the sound of the trumpet.

3I will cut off the judge from her midst and kill all her princes with him, says Yahweh.

4Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Judah and for four, I will not turn it back because they rejected Yahweh's law and his statutes; they did not keep them, and their lies led them astray, after which their fathers walked.

5I will send fire on Judah, and it will consume the palaces of Jerusalem.

6Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Israel, even for four, I will not turn it back, because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes.

7Those who crave the dust of the earth on the heads of the needy and deflect the path of the oppressed, while a man and his father go to the young woman to defile my holy name.

8They stretch out on pledged garments beside every altar, and in the house of their gods they drink wine from those fined.

9Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the cedars' height and who was strong as oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

10I myself brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years through the wilderness to possess the land of the Amorite.

11I raised prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Is this not so, sons of Israel? declares Yahweh.

12You made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets, saying, "Do not prophesy!"

13Behold, I am pressed beneath you, as a cart is pressed when full of sheaves.

14Escape fails the swift, the strong cannot strengthen his power, and the mighty cannot save his life.

15Neither will the archer stand, nor the fleet-footed escape, nor will the horseman save himself.

16Even the stouthearted among the mighty will flee naked on that day, says Yahweh.
