Kings 9
When Solomon finished building Yahweh's house and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire that he delighted to do,
Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.
Yahweh said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you offered before me; I have consecrated this house you built to place my name there forever, and my eyes and my heart will be there all the days."
As for you, if you walk before me as your father David walked—in integrity of heart and uprightness—doing all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my ordinances.
I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I spoke to David your father, saying, “A man will not fail you from Israel's throne.”
But if you turn away from following me, you or your sons, and do not keep my commandments and my decrees that I have placed before you, but go and serve other gods and bow to them,
I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them, and the house I consecrated for my name I will cast from before me; Israel will become a byword and a taunt among all the peoples.
Everyone passing by this high house will be astonished and hiss, and they will say, "Why has Yahweh done so to this land and to this house?"
And they will answer, “Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and clung to other gods, bowed down to them and worshiped them, and served them; therefore Yahweh has brought all this calamity upon them.”
It came to pass at the end of twenty years during which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Yahweh and the king's house.
Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar trees, fir trees, and gold, to the full extent of his wishes; then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
Hiram went out from Tyre to see the cities Solomon had given him, but they were not right in his eyes.
He said, "What cities are these that you gave me, my brother?" And he called them the land of Cabul to this day.
Hiram sent the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold.
This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon levied to build the house of Yahweh, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
Pharaoh, king of Egypt, went up and captured Gezer, burned it with fire, killed the Canaanites living in the city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.
Solomon built Gezer and Lower Beth Horon.
and Baalath, and Tamar, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land.
and all the storage cities that were Solomon's, and the chariot cities, and the horsemen cities, and the desire of Solomon that he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.
All the people remaining of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who themselves were not from the sons of Israel.
Their children who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel could not utterly destroy, Solomon conscripted into forced labor to this day.
Solomon made no servants from the sons of Israel, for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, captains of his chariots, and his horsemen.
These were the chiefs of the overseers who were over Solomon's work, five hundred fifty ruling over the people who did the work.
But Pharaoh's daughter came up from David's city to her house, which he had built for her; then he built the Millo.
Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings three times a year on the altar he built to Yahweh, and he burned incense with them before Yahweh. So he finished the house.
King Solomon built a fleet at Ezion-geber, beside Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom.
Hiram sent his servants, sailors skilled in the sea, aboard the fleet with Solomon's servants.
They came to Ophir, took gold from there—four hundred twenty talents—and brought it to King Solomon.
