2 Timothy 2

1You therefore, my child, be strong in the grace in Christ Jesus.

2And what you heard from me through many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be competent also to teach others.

3Suffer afflictions as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

4No soldier entangles himself in civilian affairs, so he may please the one who enlisted him.

5Also, if anyone competes, he is not crowned unless he competes lawfully.

6The farmer who toils must be first to partake of the fruits.

7Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

8Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, from David's seed, according to my gospel.

9In which I endure affliction to the point of chains, as an evildoer, but God's word is not bound.

10For this reason I endure everything for the elect, so that they too may attain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11This word is trustworthy: for if we died with him, we will also live with him.

12If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he too will deny us.

13If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.

14Remind them of these things, charging before the Lord not to wrangle about words, which profits nothing and overthrows those who hear.

15Be eager to present yourself approved to God as an unashamed worker who correctly handles the word of truth.

16But shun profane and empty talk, for they will advance further in ungodliness.

17And their word will eat like gangrene, of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus.

18Who have swerved from the truth, saying the resurrection has already taken place and subverting the faith of some.

19Nevertheless, God's steadfast foundation stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the Lord's name depart from unrighteousness."

20In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also wooden and earthen ones, some for honor and some for dishonor.

21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the master, prepared for every good work.

22Flee youthful desires, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.

23But avoid foolish and uneducated questions, knowing that they engender fights.

24And the Lord's servant must not fight, but be gentle toward all, able to teach, patient.

25with gentleness correcting those who oppose themselves, perhaps God may give them repentance leading to knowledge of truth.

26and they may come to their senses out of the devil's snare, having been captured by him to his will.
