Micah 5

1Now gather yourself in troops, daughter of troops; he has laid siege against us. They will strike Israel's judge on the cheek with a rod.

2But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though small among Judah's thousands, from you he will come forth to me who is to rule in Israel, whose goings forth are from antiquity, from days of eternity.

3Therefore he will hand them over until the time she who is laboring gives birth. Then the remnant of his brothers will return to the sons of Israel.

4He will stand and shepherd in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God, and they will dwell—for now he will be great to the ends of the earth.

5He will be peace when Assyria comes into our land and when he treads our palaces, then we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes of men.

6They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its gates. He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he enters our land, and when he treads within our borders.

7The remnant of Jacob will be among many nations like dew from Yahweh, like showers on grass that does not wait for any man nor hope for the sons of men.

8The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples—like a lion among beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep—who, if he passes through, tramples and tears in pieces, with none to deliver.

9Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries, and all your enemies will be cut off.

10In that day, says Yahweh, I will cut off your horses from your midst and destroy your chariots.

11I will cut off the cities of your land and tear down all your strongholds.

12I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and no diviners will be yours.

13I will cut off your carved images and your pillars from among you, and you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands.

14I will uproot your Asherim from among you, and I will destroy your cities.

15I will take vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations that did not listen.
