Jonah 2

1Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God from the fish's belly.

2He said, "From my distress I called to Yahweh, and he answered me—from the belly of Sheol I cried out, and you heard my voice."

3You hurled me into the depths in the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your breakers and your billows passed over me.

4I said, "I have been driven away from your sight; yet I will look once more toward your holy temple."

5The waters surrounded me up to my soul; the deep encircled me, weeds wrapped around my head.

6I sank to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth hemmed me in with its bars forever, yet you raised my life from the pit, Yahweh my God.

7When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahweh, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.

8Those who heed vain lies forsake their mercy.

9But I will sacrifice to you, giving thanks aloud. I will fulfill what I vowed. Salvation belongs to Yahweh.

10Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
