James 5

1Come now, you rich, weep and howl over your coming miseries.

2Your riches have decayed, and your garments are moth-eaten.

3Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will stand as testimony against you and devour your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.

4See, the wages of the workers who mowed your fields, which you withheld from them, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

5You have lived luxuriously on the earth and wantoned; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

6You have condemned and murdered the righteous one; he does not resist you.

7Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, patiently over it until it receives the early and late rain.

8You too be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

9Brothers, do not groan against one another, so that you are not judged. Behold, the judge stands before the door.

10Brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of suffering and patience.

11See, we pronounce blessed those who endured. You heard of Job's endurance and saw the Lord's outcome, that the Lord is deeply compassionate and merciful.

12Above all, my brothers, do not swear—neither by heaven nor by earth nor by any other oath; rather, let your yes be yes, and your no, no, so that you do not fall under judgment.

13Is anyone among you enduring hardship? Let him pray. Is anyone in good spirits? Let him sing.

14Is anyone sick among you? Let him call the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

15And the prayer of faith will heal the sick one, and the Lord will raise him up; even if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.

16Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual prayer of a righteous person has great power.

17Elijah was a man with passions like ours, and with prayer he prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

18And he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

19My brothers, if anyone among you strays from the truth and someone turns him back,

20Let him know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his life from death and will hide a multitude of sins.
