1King Ahasuerus imposed a tribute on the land and the islands of the sea.

2All his deeds of strength and might, and the account of Mordecai's greatness to which the king raised him, are they not written in the book of the daily records of the kings of Media and Persia?

3For Mordecai the Jew ranked second to King Ahasuerus, stood prominent among the Jews, and enjoyed favor with most of his kin, seeking his people's welfare and speaking peace to all his descendants.
