2 Peter 1

1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who share with us equally precious faith in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

3As his divine power has granted us everything for life and godliness through knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue.

4Through which precious and exceedingly great promises have been granted to us, so that through these you may become partakers of divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world through lust.

5For this very reason, adding all diligence, supply virtue to your faith; and to virtue, knowledge.

6and in knowledge self-control; and in self-control endurance; and in endurance godliness;

7and in godliness brotherly love; and in brotherly love, love.

8For these things make you neither idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ when they are in you and abound.

9For whoever does not have these things is blind and shortsighted, having forgotten the purification from his former sins.

10Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election firm, for if you practice these things, you will never stumble.

11For in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.

12Therefore I intend always to remind you of these things, although you know them and are established in the truth now present.

13Yes, I deem it fitting, as long as I am in this tent, to rouse you by reminder.

14knowing that the putting away of my tabernacle is near, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made known to me.

15Moreover, I will also strive that you always be able to remember these things after my departure.

16For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we declared to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but became eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17For he received honor and glory from God the Father when such a voice came to him from the Majestic Glory: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

18And we heard this voice brought from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

19And we have a firmer prophetic word, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

20Knowing this first, that every prophecy of Scripture does not arise from private interpretation.

21For no prophecy was ever brought by man's will, but men, being borne by the Holy Spirit, spoke from God.
