1 John 2

1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you do not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

2And he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, not for our own only but also for the whole world.

3By this we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4Whoever claims to know him yet fails to keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5But whoever keeps his word, God's love has truly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him.

6Whoever says he abides in him ought himself also to walk just as he walked.

7Beloved, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you heard.

8Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is departing and the true light already shines.

9Whoever claims to be in the light and hates his brother is in darkness even until now.

10Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and no stumbling block exists in him.

11But whoever hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness and does not know where he goes, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12I write to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

13I write to you, fathers, because you have known the one from the beginning; I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

14I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know the one from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

15Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love is not in him.

16For everything in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father, but from the world.

17The world is passing away, and its lust with it, but whoever does God's will remains forever.

18Children, it is the last hour, and as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; by this we know that it is the last hour.

19They left us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they left so that they might be shown that not all of them are of us.

20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

21I did not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is from the truth.

22Who is the liar if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

23Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

24You, let what you heard from the beginning abide in you; if what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.

25And this is the promise that he himself promised us: eternal life.

26I have written these things to you concerning those deceiving you.

27But you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; instead, as his anointing teaches you about all things and is true and no lie, just as it taught you, you remain in him.

28And now, little children, remain in him, so that when he appears we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

29If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who works righteousness has been born of him.
