2 Samuel 9

1David said, "Is there yet anyone remaining from Saul's house whom I may treat kindly for Jonathan's sake?"

2Saul’s house had a servant named Ziba, and they called him to David. The king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” He said, “Your servant.”

3The king said, "Is there still no one from Saul's house whom I may show God's kindness?" Ziba said to the king, "Jonathan still has a son, lame in the feet."

4The king said to him, “Where is he?” Ziba said to the king, “Look, he is in the house of Machir son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.”

5King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar.

6Mephibosheth son of Jonathan son of Saul came to David, fell on his face, and bowed low. David said, "Mephibosheth." He answered, "Behold, your servant!"

7David said to him, "Do not fear, for I will surely deal kindly with you for your father Jonathan's sake, and I will restore to you all the land of your father Saul; and you will eat bread at my table continually."

8He bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that you would turn toward a dead dog like me?"

9The king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, "I have given your master's son everything that belonged to Saul and his whole household."

10You, your sons, and your servants shall work the land for him and bring in the yield so your master's son has bread to eat, but Mephibosheth your master's son shall eat bread continually at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11Ziba said to the king, “Whatever my lord the king bids his servant do, so shall your servant do.” Mephibosheth ate at the king's table like one of the king's sons.

12Mephibosheth had a little son whose name was Micha, and all the inhabitants of Ziba's house were servants to Mephibosheth.

13Mephibosheth remained in Jerusalem because he always ate at the king's table, and he was lame in both his feet.
