The Bible locates identity less in self-invention than in belonging. Who you are is received before it is achieved: created, known, and — in Christ — made new. Scripture does not erase personality or calling; it refuses to let performance, shame, or other people’s verdicts have the last word.

## Key verses

- **2 Corinthians 5:17** — If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; the old has passed away.
- **Galatians 2:20** — I have been crucified with Christ; the life I now live is by faith in the Son of God who loved me.
- **1 Peter 2:9** — You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own possession.
- **Ephesians 2:10** — We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works he prepared beforehand.

## Highlighted verse

> Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
>
> — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (King James Version)

## Reflection

Biblical identity is a gift that then becomes a vocation. You are not asked to invent a self from scratch, or to despise the self you have. You are asked to live as someone already named and already loved — and then to walk in the good work that fits that name.

## One next step

Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 aloud using your own name. Then write one sentence about a good work in front of you that fits a person already loved, not a person still auditioning.
