16. And the scribes of the Pharisees, seeing him eat with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
17. And when Jesus heard, he said to them, "The healthy have no need of a physician, but the sick do; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
18. John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?"
19. And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast."
20. But days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.
21. No one sews a patch of new cloth onto an old garment; otherwise the new patch pulls away from the old, and the tear becomes worse.
22. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins, else the wine bursts the skins, the wine perishes, and the skins too; but new wine into new wineskins.

24. And the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why do they do on the Sabbath what is not permitted?"
25. He said to them, "Haven't you ever read what David did when he faced a need and grew hungry—he and those with him?"
26. How he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, ate the bread of the Presence—which is not lawful to eat except for the priests—and gave to those who were with him.
27. And he said to them, "The Sabbath came into being for man's sake, not man for the Sabbath."
