23. And he said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world."
24. Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.
25. They therefore said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "What I am also telling you from the beginning."
26. I have many things to say and to judge about you, but the one who sent me is true, and I speak to the world those things I heard from him.
27. They did not know that he was speaking of the Father to them.
28. Jesus therefore said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am, and I do nothing on my own, but as the Father taught me, I speak these things."
29. And the one who sent me is with me; he has not forsaken me alone, because I always do the things pleasing to him.
30. As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
31. Jesus therefore said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples."
32. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
33. They answered him, "We are Abraham's seed, and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How do you say that you will become free?"
34. Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin."
35. But a slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.
36. Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you will truly be free.
37. I know that you are Abraham's seed, but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.
38. I speak what I have seen with my Father, and you therefore do what you heard from your father.
39. They answered and said to him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do Abraham's works."
40. But now you seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you that I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.
41. You perform your father's deeds. They said to him, "We have not been born of sexual immorality; we have one Father, God."
42. Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I went forth from God and have come. Nor have I come from myself, but he sent me."
43. Why do you not comprehend my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.
44. You are of your father the devil, and you choose to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because no truth is in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, because he is a liar and the father of it.
45. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.
46. Who among you convicts me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not trust me?
47. Whoever is of God hears God's words; for this reason you do not hear, because you are not of God.
48. The Jews answered him, "Do we not rightly say that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?"
49. Jesus answered, "I have no demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me."
50. But I do not seek my glory; there is one who seeks and judges.
51. Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone holds to my word, he will never behold death forever.
52. The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets did too—and you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death forever.'"
53. Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died. Whom do you make yourself?
54. Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who glorifies me, whom you say is our God."
55. And you have not known him, but I know him. Even if I say that I do not know him, I will be like you, a liar. But I know him, and hold fast to his word.
56. Your father Abraham exulted to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.
57. So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?"
58. Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am.”
59. They therefore picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out from the temple.
