1. The word that came to Jeremiah about all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah—that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
2. which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the dwellers of Jerusalem, saying,
3. From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until this day—these three and twenty years—the word of Yahweh has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened.
4. Yahweh sent all his servants the prophets to you, rising early and sending them, but you did not listen or incline your ear to hear.
5. saying, "Return please, each from his evil path and from the evil of your deeds, and remain on the land that Yahweh gave you and your fathers forever, even forever."
6. Do not go after other gods to serve them and bow down to them, and do not anger me with the work of your hands, and I will not harm you.
7. Yet you have not listened to me, declares Yahweh, so as to provoke me to anger with the work of your hands, to your own harm.
8. Therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts: because you have not listened to my words.
9. Look, I will send and take all the families of the north, declares Yahweh, and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, my servant, and bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations, devoting them to destruction and setting them as a desolation, a hissing, and everlasting ruins.
10. I will take from them the sound of rejoicing, the sound of gladness, the sound of the bridegroom, the sound of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.
11. This entire land will become a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12. When seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, says Yahweh, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; I will make it desolations forever.
13. I will bring against that land all my words that I have spoken against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.
14. For many nations and great kings—even they—will enslave them also, and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.
15. For thus says Yahweh, God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.
16. They will drink and stagger and rave because of the sword that I send among them.
17. I took the cup from Yahweh's hand and made all the nations drink, those to whom Yahweh had sent me.
18. Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and its princes, to make them a desolation, a waste, a hissing, and a curse, as they are today.
19. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, and all his people.
20. and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod.
21. Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon;
22. and all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the island beyond the sea,
23. Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all with shorn temples.
24. and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the Arabs dwelling in the wilderness,
25. and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media
26. And all the kings of the north, the nearby and the distant, each to his brother, and all the kingdoms of the earth that are across the face of the ground, and the king of Sheshach will drink after them.
27. Tell them: Thus says Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Drink, get drunk, vomit, fall, and do not rise because of the sword that I am sending among you.
28. If they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then say to them, Thus says Yahweh of hosts: You shall surely drink.
29. Look, I begin to unleash disaster on the city that bears my name; will you then go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I call a sword against all who dwell on earth, declares Yahweh of hosts.
30. And you, prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: Yahweh will roar from the heights and sound his voice from his holy dwelling; he will roar fiercely over his pasture, shouting like grape-treaders against all who live on earth.
31. A tumult reaches to the ends of the earth, for Yahweh has a dispute with the nations; he will judge all flesh—the wicked he delivers to the sword, says Yahweh.
32. Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Look, disaster is spreading from nation to nation, and a great tempest will arise from the ends of the earth.
33. Those slain by Yahweh will cover the earth from end to end on that day; they will not be mourned, nor gathered, nor buried, but will become dung spread over the surface of the ground.
34. Howl, shepherds, and cry out; wallow, you noble ones of the flock, for the days of your slaughter and your dispersions are full, and you will fall like a precious vessel.
35. Flight will perish from the shepherds, and deliverance from the nobles of the flock.
36. A sound of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the nobles of the flock! For Yahweh is destroying their pasture.
37. The peaceful pastures fall silent because of the heat of Yahweh's anger.
38. He has forsaken his lair like a lion, because their land has become a desolate waste due to the fury of oppression and the fury of his anger.
