2. Why are your clothes red, and your garments like those of one treading the winepress?

6. I trampled the peoples in my anger, made them drunk in my wrath, and brought their blood down to the earth.
7. I will recount Yahweh's faithful mercies and his praiseworthy deeds, for all that he has granted us, his immense favor toward the house of Israel, which he extended to them out of his compassion and the abundance of his faithful love.
8. For he said, “They are indeed my people, children who will not deceive,” so he became their Savior.
9. In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence rescued them; out of his love and mercy he redeemed them, bearing them and carrying them all the days of old.
10. But they rebelled and distressed his Holy Spirit, so he became their adversary and battled against them.
11. He recalled days long past, Moses and his people, saying, "Where is the one who led them up from the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is the one who placed his holy Spirit among them?"
12. Who made his glorious arm march at Moses' right hand, who split the waters before them to make an everlasting name for himself?

16. You are our father, though Abraham ignores us and Israel takes no notice of us; you, Yahweh, are our father, our redeemer from eternity—such is your name.
17. Yahweh, why do you cause us to wander from your ways and harden our heart from fearing you? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.
18. Your holy people held it only briefly; our enemies have trampled your sanctuary.
19. We have become like those you never ruled, like those never called by your name.
