6. It budded and became a spreading vine of low height, its branches facing toward him with its roots under him, so it became a vine that produced boughs and sent forth sprigs.
7. There was another great eagle with great wings and abundant feathers; behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and extended its branches toward him from the furrows of its planting, for him to water it.
8. It was planted in good ground by abundant waters to produce branches and bear fruit, becoming a glorious vine.
9. Say, "Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Will it prosper? Will he not tear out its roots and lop off its fruit so it withers—all its fresh sprouting leaves? Nor by mighty strength or many people will it be raised from its roots."
10. Look, being planted, will it thrive? Won't it utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It will wither in the furrows of its growth.
11. Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
12. Say now to the rebellious house, Have you not known what these things are? Say to them, See, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and its princes, and brought them to him in Babylon.
13. He took from the kingdom's offspring and made a covenant with him; he brought him under oath and took the land's mighty ones.
14. that the kingdom might be kept humble, lest it exalt itself, but stand by observing his covenant.
15. He rebelled against him by sending his messengers to Egypt to supply him with horses and a vast force. Will he succeed? Will he escape, the one who does such things? Will he break the covenant and get away?

18. He disdained the oath by breaking the covenant; behold, he gave his hand and did all these things—he shall not escape.
19. Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: As I live, surely my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke, I will put upon his own head.
20. I will spread my net over him, and he will be caught in my trap; I will bring him to Babylon and judge him there for his treachery by which he betrayed me.
21. All his fugitives among all his bands will fall by the sword, and the survivors will scatter toward every wind; then you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken.
22. Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will take from the crest of the tall cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender shoot from the tips of its young twigs and set it on a tall and prominent mountain.
23. On Israel's high mountain I will plant it, and it will bear a branch, yield fruit, and become a majestic cedar, and all birds of every wing will dwell under it, in the shade of its branches they will dwell.
24. All the trees of the field will know that I, Yahweh, have humbled the high tree, exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree, and caused the dry tree to flourish; I, Yahweh, have spoken and done it.
